Hi I am Leigh Skead
As a watercolour artist I am drawn to the way light and emotion can be captured through the delicate dance of pigment and water. The translucency, layering, and unpredictability of watercolour feels like a conversation — one where intuition and surrender meet on the page. It’s not just about technique, but about trust — in the process, in the medium, and in what wants to be expressed.

My subjects range from everyday rural charm — chooks pecking in golden soil, children watching sunsets by the riverbank — to quiet moments in rainy streets or shells scattered on sunlit sand. Each piece carries the stillness and soul of a moment remembered.

Currently, my greatest passion is portraiture. I am working on a series that honours the incredible women of Proserpine — those whose quiet contributions span generations. Women like the local dance teacher who’s shaped lives for decades, or the photographer who has captured entire family lineages. These portraits aim to share not just a likeness, but a legacy — immortalising gratitude, strength, and connection through colour and brushstroke.

My creative roots run deep — painting first found me during pregnancy, a time of reflection and new beginnings. But I also carry the legacy of my great-aunt’s artworks, a reminder that creativity and storytelling flow through the generations.

Through every painting, I seek to share appreciation, emotion, and reverence — for people, for place, and for the quiet beauty woven through everyday life
