This painting shows our popular Stone Curlews in their tropical environment. They are found both on our islands and mainland. The Beach Stone Curlew are often seen at low tide in the mud flats and sand, foraging for molluscs and crabs. The Bush Stone Curlew are a nocturnal ground dwelling bird that have a distinctive haunting cry which we hear most evenings.
