Workshop Details

Saturday -10 May 2025, 9am - 11am We are so excited to present an enamelling workshop with talented Townsville glass artist Alison Velvin. Alison draws inspiration from the reef and the rainforest to create beautiful pieces of wearable art. Enamelling metal for jewellery is an ancient art form that takes many different styles and techniques. Basically, it is melting glass onto metal shapes. But is also like alchemy as the enamel fused to the metal in a flame creates vibrant, durable colours. In this workshop Alison will share her knowledge and skills as she takes you through the steps required to create your own original enamel jewellery design. As you craft your jewellery you will learn a variety of techniques such as sifting dry enamels, wet packing, counter enamelling, sgraffito (scratching designs onto unfired enamel powder and layering of transparent enamels to achieve a total unique effect. You will walk away with a pair of earrings hand made by you! If earrings are not your jewellery of choice you can create a pendant instead. All materials provided. Small class (five people maximum). Suitable for complete beginners or those that wish to refine their skills. Minimum age 18 years These workshops have been proudly subsidised by FRRR, allowing participants to attend at half the usual price.
