In this painting, I wanted to depict the tops of mangroves at dusk that are almost halo like, in contrast to the dark impenetrable and mysterious root system underneath with little glints of light that filter through this tangled mass.
Painting is a medium through which I can express my inner response to feelings for nature and concerns for the environment. I find inspiration from its many moods, from desolation to desire, as well as the beauty of light and how it defines the surface of land, sky, or water. I strive to keep a sense of rhythm and energy in my work with attention to colour, space, and texture I enjoy the process of building up marks, revealing previous layers, and applying transparent glazes.
