Small Canvases Make a Big Impact
It was wonderful to see so many people come along to support our small canvas fundraising evening at the Community Art Gallery on Thursday night!
The Gallery proudly displayed 53 original artworks created and donated by 32 local artists, filling our small canvas wall. People started arriving early to make sure they had the chance to purchase their favourites, and several works were snapped up within the first few minutes. There was even some friendly competition over a couple of particularly popular pieces!
The fundraiser was a wonderful showcase of the diversity and talent within our local arts community, with each artist bringing their own style and interpretation to the small canvas format.
Another special moment during the evening was the unveiling of a portrait by award-winning artist Jamie Stickland, donated as the $5,000 raffle prize for this year’s Great Barrier Reef Festival Art Exhibition. Jamie presented the finished portrait to raffle winners Steve and Lynne Rix, with their dog Cocoa taking pride of place after deciding to join the preliminary photo shoot!
We’re also very grateful to Gemma Louise Pap, Lucy Seddon-Brown, Laura Black and Barry Smith, who generously donated works and prizes for our raffle and silent auction.
Together, the evening raised nearly $3,000 for the Gallery. These funds will go towards equipment and furniture for our new workshop program, which will be launched over the coming months. The program will include a range of creative workshops for everyone from complete beginners through to experienced artists.
And the small canvas collection isn’t finished yet!
Some wonderful late arrivals have now been added to the wall, and the remaining original artworks will stay on display and available for purchase over the next few weeks. So if you couldn’t make it to the fundraiser, there’s still plenty to see and an opportunity to take home an original piece of local art.
The Gallery also has a brand-new rotation of artworks and artist-made gifts on display, making now a great time to visit.
This Wednesday 30 September we’re holding a Creative Fun Day from 10am to 2pm, giving young creatives the opportunity to come along, have some fun and try their hand at creating their own artwork.
Who knows? We might just inspire the next generation of artists whose work will one day hang on the Gallery walls!
