Gallery Update

Exciting News for Creative Connections Whitsundays!

We are thrilled to announce that today, the Council has officially approved our application for a 10-year Peppercorn Lease on the old Information Centre in Proserpine. This marks a significant milestone for Creative Connections Whitsundays (CCW) and our vision for a cultural hub in the region.

Four councillors spoke in support of our proposal during the meeting:

Cr John Finlay praised the initiative, calling it an absolutely great initiative by CCW to benefit the community. He highlighted our region-wide membership and hoped Council would continue supporting exhibition spaces across our region as a drawcard for tourism.

Mayor Ry Collins expressed his enthusiasm for developing a cultural precinct in Proserpine, adjacent to the Museum and Community Centre. Drawing on his experience at our well-run and highly attended exhibition earlier this year, he reinforced the importance of arts and culture in the area.

Cr John Collins acknowledged public demand for an art gallery in the region, wishing CCW success in this endeavour.

Cr Clay Bowman emphasised the opportunity to leverage under-utilised council properties for arts, culture, and heritage facilities, underscoring the importance of such spaces throughout the region.

The Council voted unanimously in favour, with a resounding 7-0 decision to allow CCW to enter into the lease.

We are incredibly excited about the future of this project, but we know this is just the beginning. The hard work now lies ahead as we transform the neglected building into a beautiful, creative, and welcoming space—a Proserpine-based home for CCW members and a place for the community to connect through the arts.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us on this journey so far. As we move forward, we will be forming an advisory committee of people who hold special skills, expertise, or a passion for creating something amazing at this venue. Stay tuned!
